Sunday review

I'm surprised to see none of the rumours about Pfizer launching a hostile bid for AstraZeneca end up in the Sunday newspapers today.

The hostile bid rumour - and also talk that Pfizer was planning to drop its bid - were both doing the rounds among traders and hedge funds late last week. I presume there is nothing in both rumours (at this moment in time, at least) given both were being aired simultaneously and neither has ended up being stood up by a reputable Sunday newspaper.

Still, there were plenty of old Betaville exclusives that were re-published in today's Sunday newspapers. The Sunday Telegraph and the Mail on Sunday both had stories about the imminent of announcement of the £4 billion combination of Carphone Warehouse and Dixons Retail.

Here are links to The Sunday Telegraph and Mail on Sunday stories, and my original exclusive:

Meanwhile, Matthew Goodman over at The Sunday Times has picked up on one of Betaville's scoopette's from a few weeks ago with his story about Mitchells & Butlers being the front runner to buy the Orchid pub group from Deutsche Bank.

Here are a links to Goodman's tale and my previous story:
