Unsurprisingly the Shell/BG Group £47 billion mega deal has dominated the front pages of the business press and, indeed, some of the main books (newsroom parlance for the front home news section of a journal).
But tucked away at the back The Times business section is a rather interesting nugget in Gary Parkinson's market report.
Parky leads his column with the Smurfit Kappa takeover rumour, reporting International Paper and Australia's Amcor have been tipped as the predators circling the EURO 6.8 billion Irish paper and packaging group. Here is a link to Parky's column:

Funnily enough, I myself had been chasing the same rumour in the last few days but none of my top sources could help me stand this one up.
Although I couldn't get a primary source on this potential deal, the suggestion from well-placed industry insiders is that London-listed Mondi could also be a potential buyer for Smurfit Kappa.
It's definitely a situation to keep an eye on...
