Happy days - it looks like a major deal story I broke earlier in the year is actually going to happen.
Often after breaking a story about a big deal - such as Borealis's £5 billion bid for Severn Trent last summer or Amec's £700m tilt for Kentz Corporation in August 2014 - the whole thing falls apart despite formal confirmation on the regulatory news service of an approach from the bidder.
However, Mark Kleinman, Sky News City editor and a former colleague from time at The Daily Telegraph, has just revealed that Carphone Warehouse and Dixons Retail are poised to unveil their £4 billion merger deal in the next few days. Here is a link to Kleinman's piece: http://news.sky.com/story/1256274/carphone-dixons-poised-to-unveil-4bn-merger
Loyal Betaville readers will recall that I broke the original story about Carphone Warehouse and Dixons Retail being in merger talks to create a £4 billion company back in late February. Here is a link to that blog posting: http://betaville123.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/carphone-warehouse-in-merger-talks-with.html
If Kleinman's story is correct (to be clear, I have no idea whether it is but he is generally very accurate), then it's time for another round of backslapping.
