Whilst ruminating on the fact that SAB Miller and Anheuser-Busch Inbev asked for a second extension to the Takeover Panel's put-up or shut up deadline, I started to wonder: what was that Veja story in June about 3G weighing a multibillion takeover bid for Diageo all about?
In case you don't recall, Veja got the London market all aflutter after running a piece claiming Jorge Paolo Lemann, Brazil's richest man and one of the founders of 3G, was looking at buying Guinness maker and FTSE 100-listed drinks giant Diageo. Here is the link:

So, I wonder whether 3G, one of the biggest investors in Anheuser-Busch Inbev, is still interested in Diageo? Or, was this just a smokescreen?
