The venerable Wall Street Journal has just landed a cracking scoop about Mondelez submitting a $23 billion takeover bid for rival Hershey. Hat tip to those hacks who dug up that jackanory. Here is a link to their piece:

Lipin in the limelight
I'm not in the habit of giving Bloomberg much praise as the journalists that work there are pretty good at praising themselves.
However, I have to admit I rather enjoyed this - http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-01-21/deal-of-the-week-controlling-the-m-a-story - from the mighty news outlet's M&A team.

RARE alert: Shire's next deal could be "transformational" - part 2
This (see below) well written interview with Shire chief executive Flemming Ornskov by the Wall Street Journal would appear to reinforce the idea that the FTSE 100-listed group is still on the hunt for a major acquisition - whether it be Actelion, BioMarin or another (US?) rival...

RARE ALERT: Inmarsat said to be working on US takeover deal
Regular viewers of my Tip TV slot will know that I have been working on a story involving London-listed Inmarsat, the satellite network operator.
Well, I haven't managed to completely get to the bottom of the story out but I think I am barking up the right tree, so here is the tale.

Another thing on SAB Miller.
I think I talked a bit about 3G and Warren Buffett on Monday on Tip TV, and how the sage of Omaha's comments about working with the Brazilian billionaires again had triggered another round of SAB Miller takeover speculation.
Well, now it looks like Bloomberg is getting on top of the story although the financial media behemoth is suggesting Kellogg is likely to be the next take-over target for the 3G and Buffett. How to tell whether a merger rumour will come true.....
A couple of US academics have just published some research on Merger & Acquisition (M&A) reporting (a subject close to my heart) in the US.
They have come up with some interesting theories on how to tell whether M&A stories will come "true".
