Top Right Group said to be close to multi-million pound exhibitions deal

Media types might interested to hear that Top Right Group, the company formerly known as Emap, is closing in on a decent-sized events and exhibition deal.

I understand Top Right - which is owned by private equity firm Apax and the Guardian Media Group - is about a month or so away from buying an exhibitions business that would take the group's i2i division into new sectors and new countries.

For readers unfamiliar with Top Right, it's a rather large publishing, conferences and events company that used to be listed on the stock market as Emap. Emap, which still publishes Retail Week, was taken private by Apax and the Guardian Media Group for £1 billion in 2007.

The company was re-branded/restructured as Top Right Group a few years ago, with it's i2i division specialising in events, such as the World Retail Congress.

Unfortunately, I have yet to unearth which company Top Right's i2i is buying although loyal readers are welcome to get in contact via the usual channels if they know.

Here, though, is a clue about the potential i2i acquisition: one well-placed source reckons the targeted company generates around £10 million of EBITDA, so could worth between £80 million and £100 million.
